Pierre Defraigne, Executive Director of the Madariaga - College of Europe Foundation, was recently interview by Chinese channel CCTV+ on the French elections. Defraigne stated that the challenge for Hollande will be to improve the productivity and the flexibility of the labor market in France. He went on to remark that he believes "in Europe, the wind is turning. Everybody was talking of austerity. Now you see the governor of the Central Bank, Mario Draghi. You hear Christine Lagarde, the IMF director general. Everybody today is in a way shifting the focus from austerity to growth. So Hollande's job is going to be far easier than expected three weeks ago. It happens that his perspective will be more in conformity, converge with the new wind blowing over the eurozone for a policy change". |
